The Worlds Current Favourite Cocktails

LEADING COCKTAILS:
It may be controversial to categorise cocktails into 'the best', as it all comes down to preference, however, studies are showing that the following; Margarita, Cosmopolitan, Negroni, and the Espresso Martini, are the worlds current favourite cocktails. Let's take a look into what these cocktails consist of, a background story and what could be making these specific mixtures so popular.

1. THE MARGARITA

A member of the 'sour' cocktail family, the renowned Margarita requires three ingredients

- Tequila - Triple Sec (an orange flavoured liquor) - lime juice, and often served in a martini glass with a salt rim.

This worldly classic has remained one of the most highly demanded cocktails since its ideation. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to solidify the true provenance of this drink, however, these are some of our favourite, common theories of how the margarita was created in the 1930s;

1). The drink mixture was discovered by a devoted bartender, determined to serve a satisfactory drink to a customer with an allergy to many spirits, but not to tequila.

2). The drink was crafted by bartender, Danny Negrete, as a wedding gift in the 1930s. Danny opened a bar with his brother, David in the Grace Crispi Hotel in Puebla, Mexico, and the Margarita recipe was created for his fiancé, Margarita.

3). However, one of the more likely stories, told by Cocktail Historian, David Wondrich, is that the Margarita was simply an evolution of the popular Daisy cocktails, also enjoyed in the early 1900's.

The Margarita remains so consistently ordered and enjoyed by so many due to their strong, refreshing taste and how easy they are to make, and can easily made by enthusiasts at home.

2. THE COSMOPOLITAN
Informally known as a 'cosmo', the blush pink drink is made of vodka, cointreau, cranberry juice and freshly squeezed lime.
The most common origin theory of the cocktail is that it was put together by Cheryl Cook, the 'Martini Queen of South Beach' in the 1980's.
The cocktails popularity flourished following the influential series 'Sex and the city', where it made a reoccurring appearance as Carrie Bradshaw's signature cocktail.
In addition, the drink became a popular request to esteemed celebrity members at the 'Odeon',  eventually making it's way into the favour of liquor companies, rekindling its fame.

3. THE NEGRONI
The Italian cocktail, is a mixture of on apart gin, one part vermouth Rosso and one more Campari, garnished with an orange peel.
Considered an apéritif, the stirred drink is a very strong concoction and not to be drank quickly...
The Negroni is said to originate from 'Caffe Casoni', situated in the City of Dreams, otherwise known as Florence, Italy.
It appears as though the popular apéritif was catalyzed by Camilla Negroni.
The drink remains so widely enjoyed by those who appreciate ardent spirits, strong drinks with a rather pronounced kick.

4.  THE ESPRESSO MARTINI
This adored cocktail, is a cold, caffeinated alcoholic drink made with vodka, espresso coffee, coffee liqueur, and sugar.
British bartending guru, Dick Bradshell was responsible for the creation of this deliciously smooth cocktail. He was evidently responsible for revolutionising the cocktail culture scene in London during the 1980's, through his mixology at bars across the city.
This cocktail is the perfect dessert and is universally enjoyed as a sweet coffee treat, which can be on request made with baileys to create an ever smoother, sweatier texture and taste.
What a fun way to have incorporate your daily caffeine fix!
